A+ AI Prompt Pack BEGINNER ED.

Use AI as a research assistant to learn A+ terms, understand tricky concepts, and explore real-world examples — without turning it into a test engine.

Feeling Unsure About Using AI to Study?

Many A+ beginners worry that they’ll “ask it wrong” or get overwhelmed by long, technical answers. This pack focuses on using AI to learn terms, understand concepts, and do quick research — not to generate practice tests.

Every prompt on this page is:

  • Written for A+ Core 1 and Core 2 level learners.
  • Designed to build understanding first, memorization second.
  • Meant to be copied, pasted, and customized.

Use These Prompts with BB’s AI Helper

You can use these prompts in any AI chat, but they’re designed to work especially well with BB’s AI Helper, which is tuned for IT and certification-style learning.

Prompting Basics for A+ Students

You don’t have to write perfect prompts. You just need to give the AI enough context:

  • Who you are: (A+ beginner)
  • What you’re learning: (Topic / Objective)
  • Format wanted: (Simple explanation, analogy, list)

What Makes a Good Prompt?

Weak Prompt

“Explain RAM.”

Too short, no context. You might get a generic wall of text.

Strong Prompt

“I’m studying for CompTIA A+. Explain what RAM is, how it’s different from storage, and give me a simple real-world analogy.”

Now the AI knows your level, the exam, and exactly how to explain it.

Universal Template

“I’m studying for the CompTIA A+ exam and I’m a beginner. I’m trying to understand <topic>. Explain it in simple terms, define any key vocabulary, give me one real-world example, and finish with a short bullet list of the most important points.”

Concept & Research Prompts

Use these prompts when you want clearer explanations, definitions, comparisons, and real-world context.

“Explain This Concept” Prompts

Use these when a topic is confusing in your notes or slides.

Hardware Example

“I’m studying for CompTIA A+ and I’m a beginner. Explain the difference between HDDs and SSDs in simple terms. Include how they work, why SSDs are usually faster, and one example of when each might be used.”

Networking Example

“I’m an A+ student and I’m confused about IP addresses. Explain IPv4 in simple language, including what an IP address is, what a subnet mask does, and give me a basic home network example.”

Security Example

“I’m new to security and studying for A+. Explain the difference between antivirus, anti-malware, and a firewall. Use everyday language and give one example of how each protects a computer.”

“Research & Compare” Prompts

Use these to dig deeper or connect multiple A+ terms together.

Compare Technologies

“I’m studying for A+ and I want to compare two technologies. Compare HDD vs SSD from an A+ perspective. Include speed, reliability, cost, and typical use cases. Finish with a short table summarizing the differences.”

OS Comparison

“Explain the differences between Windows, macOS, and Linux for A+ level support. Focus on how a help desk technician would interact with each (file paths, basic tools, and typical user issues).”

Cloud vs On-Prem

“I’m confused about cloud vs on-prem servers. Explain the difference in simple terms, then give me 3 pros and 3 cons of each from the perspective of a small business.”

“Teach Me Like I’m New” Prompts

Use these when you feel lost and need things slowed down.

Step-by-Step Hardware

“I’m brand new to IT and studying for A+. Teach me what a motherboard is like I’m new to all of this. Explain the main parts on it and what they do, using simple comparisons.”

Command Line Basics

“I’m an A+ beginner and the command line makes me nervous. Explain what the command prompt/terminal is, why it’s useful, and give me 5 basic commands I should know with safe, non-destructive examples.”

Virtualization

“I’m studying A+ and I don’t really get virtualization and the cloud. Explain them like I’m new to tech, using real-world examples (like running multiple OSes on one PC, or using cloud storage instead of a USB drive).”

“Vocabulary & Terminology” Prompts

Use these to get clean definitions for your notes.

Define a List

“I’m building my A+ vocabulary list. Define these terms in one or two sentences each, in simple language: <paste terms>. Put each term on its own bullet and bold the term name.”

Focus on Domain

“I’m studying the networking section of A+. Give me a list of 15–20 key networking terms (protocols, hardware, and services). For each one, give a one-sentence definition and a quick real-world example.”

Rewrite Technical Jargon

“Here is a definition from my textbook that feels too technical: <paste definition>. Rewrite it in plain language like you’re explaining it to a new A+ student, but keep the important terms accurate.”
